I read a story clipping many years ago … There was a ten year old boy playing on the roof . And his father was inside the house. The house caught on fire and the father ran out and started shouting out for his son. Then he heard his son’s voice ‘Dad I’m here on the roof’ . He looked up and spotted him. The father shouted ‘Jump , I will catch you’ . The son cried back , “But Dad I cant see you through this fire’ and the father replied , ‘Its ok if you don’t see me , but know that I am here , listen to my voice and jump when I say jump. Trust in me totally , I will catch you.’ . The son heeded to his fathers voice. Though his eyes could not see past the fire , he knew His father was there beyond the fire and would catch him and never let him fall.
A lot of us , in fact all of us have at some or many points of our life , have found ourselves staring at the fire raging in front of us. There seems to be no way to escape. Wherever we turn around and see there is smoke , the crackling of the burning wood and the heat of the fire seeming to inch towards us. But this is what we are called to do ‘Look beyond the fire’.
Couple of things here … when we call to him , He hears us . A lot of us have put time in prayer in the back burner . We panic and we react carnally when circumstances and situations seem so difficult. We forget to cry out to our God . He hears us when we call.
Another thing , we need to listen to His voice. Now if the boy would have jumped whenever he felt like and not as per the timings of his father then things might have turned out very differently. God will never allow or permit you to be tested beyond what you can overcome. He is a just God. So whenever a problem arises know that our God has faith in us that we can overcome ! We need to listen to His voice and this is key. Its one thing to cry out to God and then go ahead and do whatever we think is right to get out of the problem . Many at times we just fall deeper. But when we wait on the Lord , and when we listen to His voice , you can be sure you are going to land safe in His arms.
When the fire rages in front of us , let us not get perturbed about it. Our God reigns and He will guide us through this safely . We just need to trust Him completely and listen to His voice .
