Definitions Redefined ! Walk into the more

“Great is our Lord and mighty in power; His understanding is infinite”

Psalm 147:5

I shifted apartments over the weekend and when I woke up in the morning and glanced at my new room, I thought to myself “Wow this room is huge”. Others didn’t seem to think so.. So as I walked around all sleepy to the other rooms in the apartment and spent time just admiring the vastness of the space, I realized “Hmmm.. My room is pretty big for me, but now that I have seen another room which is bigger , I know what their ‘bigger’ meant..” its so relative.

Not that I would do much with the extra space , but as I was thinking that this is what God laid on my heart.. Many at times we think “This is all God can handle” because that is all that we have seen or have confined ourselves to. So “Get out of your room” J

Many at times we try and confine God’s ability within the paradigms of our understanding … Here is the truth – Great is our Lord and mighty in power; His understanding is infinite ! When I went to the bigger hall and looked at the space I thought “Ok this is a lot of space” , when I went upstairs and glanced at the backyard “ I went Whoa that is a lot of space” , when I went for a drive to a nearby spot and looked at the beauty of the land and saw the creek flow I went “ now that’s beautiful and spacious” and I’m sure as I keep going my definitions of spaciousness is will change J

The more we spend time in His presence , the more He reveals Himself to us , our definitions of a relationship with God and what He can do keeps growing and expanding. We first start off with “5 mins of prayer” and then we go to “half an hour” and then on to an hour and as we keep tasting His presence and just spending time with His word we realize how much ever is never enough. We start off with “oh yes God heals but its only others and not me”, and then as we taste and see His goodness we go “Whoa God worked this in my life” and our understanding grows to a point where we truly live what we believe and say “Nothing is impossible for my God”

Are your definitions of what God can do in your life confined to the limitations of your mind? Time to step out in faith.. Time to grow.. Time to have Him change our definitions of every day life..

God Bless

Come Come Come

“Come, everyone who thirsts, come to the waters; and he who has no money, come, buy and eat! Come, buy wine and milk without money and without price”

Isaiah 55: 1

As a kid whenever I would come home from school there would always be these yummy snacks just waiting for me (and for my brother too of course J ). And the snacks on the table used to differ based on the season. If it was summer then mom would have something spicy and lots of ice cream to follow as dessert. If it was winter then it would be something steaming hot so that we could sip on it or basically make us feel warmer as we ate. Every morning when I would wake up to get ready for school, I would hear the sound of gospel music playing and the smell of good food. My mom would pack our lunches too. Everything was ready for me. All I had to do is go and feast on my breakfast, carry my lunch, finish school, come back home and feast again. A mother’s love.

How much more compassionate and gracious is our God ! His love has no comparison…His mercy and His grace has been poured out on us in abundance. And God is calling out to us “Come”
It doesn’t matter what you have, come and taste and see what He has !! : )

Some times we make things so complicated that we start striving for things we shouldn’t. His grace is all that we need. He is calling us “Come”. It doesn’t matter what the circumstance, what the situation, it doesn’t matter what we have done wrong, its not about what we have or what we can give Him… all He is looking for is you..… come as you are and feast on what He has prepared.
He knows every tear… would you come ?
Those of us tied up with the business of life and work and college … Come come to waters..

God bless

Walking into what God has orchestrated

“Then Elisha prayed and said, “O Lord, please open his eyes that he may see.” So the Lord opened the eyes of the young man, and he saw, and behold, the mountain was full of horses and chariots of fire all around Elisha”

II Kings 6: 17

A little context to this verse. The king of Syria was trying to war against Israel. But when they would plot something , God revealed these things to Elisha and Elisha would warn the king of Israel. The king of Syria was really troubled at this. At first he thought he had a traitor in his camp/army. But then he was told that it was because of Elisha the prophet. So we read in verse 14 what the king of Syria did , “So he sent there horses and chariots and a great army, and they came by night and surrounded the city”.

Verse 15 , “When the servant of the man of God rose early in the morning and went out, behold, an army with horses and chariots was all around the city. And the servant said, “Alas, my master! What shall we do?”” Just imagine this sight … you wake up early morning and step out of your front door and what do you see ? An army with horses and chariots all around the city set out to destroy you !! The servant’s reaction was “Alas!!”

Let see Elisha’s reaction, verse 16 , ““ He said, “Do not be afraid, for those who are with us are more than those who are with them.”” . The servant must have gone “huh !! what are you talking about??”

Time after time when we are faced with tough situations or tough circumstances we often look at US vs the problem. Now if that is the case we are going to get flustered, we are going to get overwhelmed, we are going to panic. No matter what the situation, no matter what the circumstance we need to remember that we are never alone. We need to remember its never us as individuals alone vs anything. God with us : ) Its Him vs the problem and we all know who the victor is !!

Elisha was as cool as a cucumber !! He was like “don’t be afraid ! There are more that are with us than with them”… We outnumber the enemy !! And then Elisha prayed. We read in verse 17 ““Then Elisha prayed and said, “O Lord, please open his eyes that he may see.” So the Lord opened the eyes of the young man, and he saw, and behold, the mountain was full of horses and chariots of fire all around Elisha”” What an amazing revelation.

Now get this, Elisha never had to pray “Lord send me an army of horses and chariots of fire”… He didn’t even had to ask ! But he saw what God had already sent.

I pray that as we walk every moment of every day we may not walk it as a self thing , a striving thing , a Me vs the world thing… But I pray that our eyes may be opened to see what God has already set up all around us…

What are we focussed on ?

“You prepare a table before me in the presence of my enemies; You anoint my head with oil; my cup overflows”

Psalm 23: 5

Isn’t it interesting that God always goes before us and has everything prepared ? : ) He has this table prepared for us. Here we read it being in the presence of our enemies. Sometimes we tend to focus on our surroundings rather than what God has actually prepared for us. Here is this table prepared for us… just waiting for us… Do we go right ahead and feast ? Or are we flustered by the presence of the enemies.

In the midst of circumstances , situations that may be distressing , that the world might see and go “Oh no” , God has gone before us and has prepared has established has ordained this table this feast for us : ) What will be our focus today ? The table that God has prepared ? Or the circumstance ?

He anoints our heads with oil and our cup overflows : ) The table is prepared. What are we going to do ?

God Bless

“You have heard that it was said, “ An eye for an eye and a tooth for a tooth.” But I tell you not to resist an evil person. But whoever slaps you on your right cheek, turn the other to him also. If anyone wants to sue you and take away your tunic, let him have your cloak also. And whoever compels you to go one mile, go with him two. Give to him who asks you, and from him who wants to borrow from you do not turn away.”

Matthew 5: 38-42

The other night as I was sitting lazily on the sofa I heard water dripping from the faucet. My friend had not closed it properly. Now I was just so snug in my place that I didn’t want to get up and go all the way to the kitchen and close the faucet. But that drip drip drip sound was driving me crazy. So guess what I did ? I decided to the turn the volume up on my laptop so that the music would drown out the dripping sound !! And as I did that God laid on my heart “This doesn’t solve the problem. But this is how people resort to other people’s problems. Instead of getting up and helping out , they just sit in willful ignorance”. I immediately sprang up from where I was , went straight to the kitchen, closed the faucet well and came back to my place.

Of course this was about way more than a dripping faucet. Sometimes when we see people struggling, when we see someone in a problem, how willing are we to go out of our snug routine, out of our snug comfort zones to help out ? Its always going to be inconvenient.

Think about this
  • Whoever slaps you on your right cheek, turn the other to him also (If people willfully try and hurt you don’t worry about it, don’t try to get back at them, be willing to turn the other cheek to them also because God is on our side…. )
  • If anyone wants to sue you and take away your tunic, let him have your cloak also (Its not about trying to prove you are right with all your might or go all defensive… If someone is trying all kinds of ways to get something from you desperately give it and more to them – that is a testimony too)
  • Whoever compels you to go one mile , go with him two – Whenever someone comes to you and asks for something , do more than what is expected… Do more than what is asked
  • Give to him who asks you and from him who wants to borrow from you do not turn away – Give Give Give…

One translation puts it this way “Here's another old saying that deserves a second look: 'Eye for eye, tooth for tooth.' Is that going to get us anywhere? Here's what I propose: 'Don't hit back at all.' If someone strikes you, stand there and take it. If someone drags you into court and sues for the shirt off your back, giftwrap your best coat and make a present of it. And if someone takes unfair advantage of you, use the occasion to practice the servant life. No more tit-for-tat stuff. Live generously

During our week we come across a lot of situations where we feel “How could he/she do that to me ? They said that falsely about me ! He/She is all out to ruin me/defame me” … during the week we see so many people in need. So many people who need help… It could be at work, it could be our neighbors, it could be the person who delivers the paper , it could be someone you see on the subway… We pass hundreds of people during the course of a week who do not know Christ as their personal savior.

Do we ignore the problem by drowning out the noise sitting in willful ignorance ? Or do we react to circumstances and situations the way Christ has commanded us ? Do we walk in LOVE ?

We cant do this on our own… But we can do it by His grace ! If we would just ask “Lord help us walk in Love, Lord help us be as You would desire” He will answer our prayer. But the question is will this be our daily prayer? Will this be the desire of our heart to pursue walking in love every day every moment by His grace and for His glory ? If we would pray …we will see the fulfillment.
