The steps before do not define the steps ahead

“So He said, “Come.” And when Peter had come down out of the boat, he walked on the water to go to Jesus.”

Matthew 14: 29 (New King James Version)

A quick background regarding the context of this verse. Jesus made His disciples get into a boat and go before Him to the other side while He sent the multitudes away. Now in the fourth watch of the night Jesus went to them walking on the sea. The disciples got scared thinking it was a ghost. But immediately Jesus spoke to them. And Peter answered Christ saying if it is Him then to command him to come on the water to Him. Most of us know what happens next. Peter sees the boisterous wind and starts to sink. And Christ stretches his arm and catches him and both of them got into the boat.

The day we accepted Christ as our personal Savior we started a supernatural walk. Christ always has His arms wide open and is calling us Come ! And now we as Christians don’t take natural steps of this world. No , we take supernatural steps because every step that we take is taken looking unto Jesus. We do not take any steps any more depending on whether it is logical , whether the world sees it as possible… we take every step directed by the Lord and looking solely to Him.

We read in verse 29 , ” So He said, “Come.” And when Peter had come down out of the boat, he walked on the water to go to Jesus” Peter actually got out of the boat and walked on the water to go to Jesus ! Wow !

Some of us however become a little self reliant at times. We take the first few steps on water well and think “wow ! Im all set to take the full walk ..I have enough faith … I’m going to make it through.” We live on the glory of the past few steps to make it through the steps ahead of us ! And that is never going to work. Verse 30 , “ But when he saw that the wind was boisterous, he was afraid; and beginning to sink he cried out, saying “Lord, save me!”” We need to understand that all it took was that one glance at the wind to bring his supernatural walk down . Do not rely on past glory ! Walking a supernatural walk towards Christ requires us to constantly keep our eyes focused on Him. It about daily surrender and submission to Him. Not a once in a week Sunday pep to get us through the week. No . Its requires daily , constant , every moment submission to Him. We read in Romans 8 : 13-14 , “For if you live according to the flesh you will die; but if by the Spirit you put to death the deeds of the body, you will live. For as many as are led by the Spirit of God, these are the sons of God.

Some of us have given in to the flesh and have found ourselves sinking. Don’t lose hope. Our God is forever faithful . Even when we fall He is always ready to stretch out His arm and pick us up. Peter cried “Lord, save me!” and we read immediately Jesus stretched out His arm and caught him. Wow ! Picture that. What an awesome God we serve. Just call upon His name and He will answer with an outstretched arm.

God Bless
