Consecrated Vessels

“Then they brought in the golden vessels that had been taken out of the temple, the house of God in Jerusalem, and the king and his lords, his wives, and his concubines drank from them.”

Daniel 5: 3

King Belshazzar made a great feast for a thousand of his lords . When he tasted the wine he commanded that the vessels of gold and silver that Nebuchadnezzar (his father) had taken out from the temple in Jerusalem be brought. And when they brought the golden vessels that had been taken out of the temple the king, his lords, his wives and his concubines all drank from them. They drank wine and praised the gods of gold, silver, bronze, iron, wood and stone.

Now these were vessels that were consecrated for the temple. They were set apart. And the king decided to use them for drinking wine and gave them to be used by his lords , wives and concubines. Depending on the translation some Bibles say in Verse 4 “in the same hour” some versions use the word “Immediately” the fingers of a human hand appeared and wrote on the plaster of the wall of the king’s palace, opposite the lampstand. The rest of the chapter is a very interesting read , please do check it out..

Belshazzar knew how the Lord had dealt with his father Nebuchadnezzar , yet he did not humble himself. He brought the vessels of God’s house and drank wine from them. And he praised the gods of silver, gold, iron, wood and stone; and the God who holds his very breathe in His hand He never glorified. In verse 30 we read, that very night Belshazzar the Chaldean king was killed.

When we say we have surrendered our lives to Christ we need to understand that we are consecrated vessels. We have made a decision to leave what is dishonorable and live a life of a Christian (a follower of Christ)

II Timothy 2 : 21 “Therefore if anyone cleanses himself from what is dishonorable, he will be a vessel for honorable use, set apart as holy, useful to the master of the house, ready for every good work.

Be careful to ensure that the world doesn’t rope you in into things that are dishonorable.

II Timothy 2: 22 “So flee youthful passions and pursue righteousness, faith, love and peace, along with those who call on the Lord from a pure heart. Have nothing to do with foolish, ignorant controversies; you know they breed quarrels.

God Bless
