When push comes to shove...

“You shall go down before me to Gilgal; and surely I will come down to you to offer burnt offerings and make sacrifices of peace offerings. Seven days you shall wait, till I come to you and show you what you should do.”

I Samuel 10: 8

When Saul was anointed as king by Samuel, Samuel told him how God would be with him and what would happen as he went. Now one of the many things that Samuel revealed to Saul was this, that he would go to Gilgal and there after 7 days Samuel would come and will show him what to do as they would offer burnt offerings and peace offerings. Sounds good ? Yeah precise instructions, blessings, just been anointed as king.

Lets fast forward to chapter 13. We see time has progressed and when the Philistines gathered together to fight with Israel, the Israelites were scared.  We read in I Samuel 13 : 8 , “Then he waited seven days, according to the time set by Samuel, But Samuel did not come to Gilgal and the people were scattered from him.” And so Saul decided to take matters into his hands. Verses 9-10 , “So Saul said, : Bring a burnt offering and peace offerings here to me.: And he offered the burnt offering. Now it happened as soon as he had finished presenting the burnt offering, that Samuel came; and Saul went to meet him, that he might greet him.

When push comes to shove will we be found trying to make God’s word come to pass or will be found trusting in Him and His faithfulness ? Saul was scared that the Philistines had gathered and that the people were scattered. Samuel had said that Saul would have to wait for seven days. But as that seventh day was going by Saul decided “I better do something… this is way beyond me… what’s going to happen … I don’t know…” Here is where holding on to Him comes into play.

A lot of times when we are in a place where things are so way beyond us, we know God is with us , we know we have to wait , but when  push comes to shove we decide to go with “How do I make God’s word come to pass…” , “How do I make this happen”… When God has promised us something He will bring it to pass. He is not a man to lie.

I pray that this word will hit home today. May we be a generation that knows to rest in Him when push comes to shove. Maybe it’s the end of the seventh day and it seems like the words spoken over your life aren’t coming to pass, maybe you are surrounded by an army that from a human perspective seems just so overwhelming and too much to handle… Remember we were never called to fight battles alone… God is with us… The victory is ours for He fights the battles for us. We just walk into freedom and victory.

God Bless
